Systems Engineer II - Amazon Dev Center U.S., Inc.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Have you ever thought about helping U.S. Intelligence Community agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems? Would you like to do this using the latest cloud computing technologies?

Amazon Route 53 is a highly available and scalable Domain Name System (DNS) service offered by Amazon Web Services. We provide advanced functionality such as latency-based routing (LBR), Private DNS, Geo DNS routing, DNS failover, and integration with a plethora of AWS services. On top of that, we offer fast change propagation with a 100% availability SLA.

Our service is quickly growing and we're expanding in multiple directions: adding new features and functionality to our DNS services, better traffic management, new AWS integrations, improving our health check capabilities, and expanding with new services in the naming and routing space.

Systems engineers in this program work closely with development teams to implement the latest Route 53 features, help reduce operational issues, and contribute to the overall health of Route 53. You will also have a chance to build Route 53 services in new AWS regions supporting our government customers.

Our team puts high value on work-life balance. Most days, the majority of our team is working onsite in Herndon, VA or Arlington, VA offices, but we’re also flexible with allowing engineers to work remotely as the project dictates. We generally keep core in-office hours from 9am-5pm.

There is an oncall rotation that engineers participate in for this role. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure our systems are resilient. If we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that the issue does not recur.

Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. Our team has a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Successful candidates will join an exciting engineering team, provide troubleshooting and operations support, and innovate to replace routine operational tasks with automation scripts and code.
